T-Bird linebacker named GWC Player of Week
Southern Utah linebacker Akeem Anifowoshe was named Defensive Player of the Week in the Great West Conference for his efforts in the T-Birds' 28-20 loss at Wyoming on Saturday.
Anifowoshe tied for the team lead with 10 tackles, including five solo stops. The senior from Las Vegas also tied for the team lead with 3.5 tackles for loss and added one sack.
His sack, an eight-yarder, came in the red zone. On the next play Anifowoshe flushed Wyoming quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels out of the pocket and forced him to throw off-balance, leading to an interception by Matt Holley in the end zone.
